Ancient Powers was a big-budget glossy take on ancient history. As Series Director, an essential task was to create the look for this 6-part blue-chip series, which included finding the VFX house that would give the series its distinctive feel and atmosphere. The challenge was to tell the rise and fall of five great ancient civilisations; Egypt, China, Rome, India & Greece in a new and innovative way. We opted for a look similar to many AAA computer games to appeal to our younger audience. We shot in 7 countries and augmented the storytelling with nearly 300 high-end VFX shots, and detailed reconstruction vignettes shot at ultra-high speed (500 fps).
